Artist Statement
I love visualising historical narratives, as their complexity and nuances are beautifully mirrored in the intricate processes of printmaking. My work in block printing, lithography and etching looks to strike up a visual dialogue between Eastern and Western artistic styles, both of which have powerfully influenced my aesthetic sensibilities.
My fascination with Middle Eastern designs comes from a deep love of Ottoman architecture and motifs in Persian mythology. My carving style in relief is inspired by traditional Chinese woodblock techniques, as well as iron wire-style painting. I hope the combination of structural and geometric elements alongside my love of rounded, billowing reticulation, will give my pieces a sculptural quality and bring these dreamscapes to life.
